FAQs — Remote Monitoring
What are the system requirements for installing Remote Monitoring software?
FMAudit software can be installed on any PC connected to your network with the following common prerequisites:
- Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or higher
- Microsoft Windows 2000 or higher
- Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
- 23 MB of free HD space
- PC powered on 24/7
What preparations are needed before installing Remote Monitoring Software?
We highly recommend your IT team review our white paper — Remote Monitoring Suite. We consider it to be required reading for anyone supporting your computers or printers. You will need to identify printers that are not networked, but are connected locally to a networked PC. These computers will need to have an agent installed to gather the printer data from the locally connected printer, and make the data available to the collection process. In addition, you will need the following information:
- SNMP Community Names(s) in use
- IP Addresses or Ranges to be scanned
- User Credentials if Proxy Server is in use
- Proxy URL/IP and Port (if required)
Finally, you will need to communicate with your Printelligent Account Manager to schedule the installation of Remote Monitoring Software.
How long does the installation process take?
Most installations can be completed in about 20 minutes. When a proxy server is in use, there may be issues requiring troubleshooting.
How is the installation accomplished?
The software application is downloaded to the networked PC selected for installation. Printelligent's IT team is available to assist in the installation process using remote assistance software.
How is the software updated?
Periodic updates are sent from FMAudit's Database. The software automatically updates similar to receiving Windows Updates on your computer.
How much bandwidth is used during a scan of my printer fleet?
The bandwidth in use is less than that of someone surfing the Internet.
Which printers will be monitored?
All print devices on your network within the IP address ranges provided to Printelligent will be scanned. In addition, if you have locally connected printers to PCs residing on the network, an agent software can be installed on the computer in order to collect the data from the printer that is locally connected.
How much control do I have over the scanning process and can I see the scanned data?
Through Printelligent's portal at https://fmaudit.printelligent.net/, you have secure login privileges to access all printer data collected. You can also link to an Embedded WebServer and configure each device. You can set scan timing and blackout periods as well.
How is my printer data kept secure?
The software pulls data from printers and transmits it to Printelligent via SSL transmission. This is the same security measure used by banking institutions to keep personal information safe. Only devices using IEEE printer communication protocols will be scanned. The portal where data is stored is accessed through password/login security measures.
With Remote Monitoring software installed, do I still need to call in my service requests?
Yes. Some repair needs will not be communicated via remote monitoring (i.e. grinding noises or dots on the page). Additionally, since scanned data is typically only transmitted once a day, Printelligent may not receive data quickly enough to address your needs in a timely fashion. Lastly, at first notice of "toner low" Printelligent will project toner usage based on previous history, and might delay coming onsite. However, if the usage rate of the printer changes (i.e. several large print jobs are sent through), toner may run out faster than expected. To ensure Printelligent is meeting all your service needs, please report all desired service requests either by calling our toll-free number or requesting service online.
What is the cost of Remote Monitoring?
Remote Monitoring is offered at no-cost to Printelligent clients and prospects during the sales engagement process.
